So many discreet ways to straighter teeth

At Park Orthodontics here in Glasgow, braces are what we do. We’ve been straightening teeth in the city for more than 45 years. When we started, pretty much the only option for braces in Glasgow was the metal train tracks you’ll most likely be familiar with, as sported on many a teenager. How times have changed! These days, there are discreet, hidden and even invisible braces on offer. Great news for adults who don’t want the world to know they are having treatment with braces in Glasgow. Here’s a rundown of the systems we offer.

Clear fixed braces

These work in the same way as traditional fixed braces, but are made from ceramics or clear crystal sapphire to blend in with the tone of your teeth.

Invisible lingual braces

These clever braces fit to the underside of the teeth and so are truly invisible. Nothing shows when you smile and no one will know you are having treatment unless you tell them! They are custom-made to fit the profile of your teeth, using gold alloy, which is softer than the metal used in traditional braces.

Six Months Smiles

These clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires work quickly on the front six teeth. This cosmetic adjustment can be made in as little as six months and some patients see results in just four.

Damon braces

We use 3D imaging technology to create these braces which means we can create incredible precise and accurate appliances that work fast. There are no elastics used in the Damon system, meaning your teeth are easier to clean and the braces feel more comfortable to wear.

We use Invisalign for cosmetic work: they are suitable for mild to moderate misalignments of the teeth. The great benefit of Invisalign is that they are clear and so can’t be seen unless someone is close up. They are also removable so eating and cleaning your teeth is easy – you just pop them out!

Mini braces

We can use a range of different braces in Glasgow for a mini brace treatment, that just focus on the front eight teeth and take about six months. Great if you want to improve your smile for a special event, such as a wedding.

Braces in Glasgow: the low-down

What are your options for teeth straightening treatment in Glasgow? Braces these days come in all shapes and sizes: some use brackets and wires, some are hidden, some are clear, some are removable: which is the right one for you?

At Park Orthodontics in Glasgow we offer many different types of braces. We know from our work with adult clients over the last 45 years, how important it is to provide braces in Glasgow that not only offer an excellent result, but also have a low impact on your lifestyle. Here’s a rundown of our treatments.

Clear, fixed braces

These are made of brackets and wires, the same as traditional braces. However, because the materials they are made of are tooth-coloured or clear, they blend into the surface of the tooth. They are made of ceramics or clear crystal sapphire. Fixed braces give us control over each individual tooth and means we can treat a wide range of misalignments in this more discreet way.

Lingual braces

These are also made from brackets and wires, but are fixed to the underside of the teeth and so can’t been seen. These are the most discreet braces we offer. Lingual braces are custom-made for each tooth, as the profile of the back of the teeth is different in each patient. They are made from metal. Almost any misalignment can be treated with lingual braces.

Damon braces

These are fixed braces that don’t use elastic to hold the wires. This means that they are easier to clean and less likely to stain the teeth.

These are clear, removable aligners that fit over the teeth and gums like a mouth guard. They can be taken out for eating and cleaning – no brackets or wires. They treat mild to moderate cases of misalignment. They must be worn for at least 20 hours a day to be effective.

Six Month Smiles

These braces work on the front six teeth and offer only a cosmetic adjustment. Made of clear, tooth-coloured wires, they work in just six months.

Does your smile stand out?

A great smile lights up the face, but if you have teeth that are crooked, spaced too widely or crowded, then people may notice you for the wrong reasons. If you feel self-conscious about how you look, then social situations and even having your photograph taken can feel challenging. You may have considered braces, but then dismissed the idea because you thought they would be unsightly, time-consuming, inconvenient or uncomfortable. Many patients in the same position have benefitted from a range of modern braces. Glasgow is home to Park Orthodontics and we are proud to offer techniques that make having your teeth straightened a more acceptable procedure.

Braces that fit in with your lifestyle

Most adults would prefer that their braces do not make them feel conspicuous. Luckily, you no longer have to tell the world that you are having your teeth straightened, as modern methods are less obtrusive than ever before. We offer effective braces in Glasgow that give you the smile you dream of without affecting your everyday life. The Invisalign system uses a series of almost invisible clear plastic trays that are individually made to fit your mouth. They are changed every week to 10 days to gently guide your teeth into a new position and removeable so you can take them out for eating and cleaning. Another popular option for patients who have had braces in Glasgow is the Six Month Smiles technique, which uses very discreet clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires. For the ultimate in invisible, we can actually fit the brackets behind your teeth so they are completely hidden.

Why have braces in Glasgow?

The first thing other people will notice is that you have a more attractive smile. What many patients do not realise is that correctly positioned teeth are also healthier. This is because they are more stable and there are fewer gaps in which plaque can accumulate. Straighter teeth are easier to clean and you avoid the risk of decay or gum problems. Having braces in Glasgow can improve your dental health, as well as enhancing your appearance.

Tackling crooked teeth with braces in Glasgow

When we see movie stars, models and musicians we love on TV and any other media outlet, we often wish we could have teeth that look that good. Thanks to modern dental techniques we can achieve that.

One of the most common issues people have with their teeth in the UK is their alignment. The perfect smile is considered to have great symmetry and the teeth and gums should be in harmony.

Because of the increase in demand for alternative teeth straightening treatments, we have seen a surge in innovations. Braces in Glasgow can now straighten teeth faster than ever and with less visual impact than in the days of traditional ‘train track’ braces.

Teeth straightening options: Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles is a modern treatment that works on the same principles as traditional braces. It has been developed to give patient’s teeth a quick boost.

The average treatment time for Six Month Smiles is, you guessed it, six months. These braces are also made from clear and tooth-coloured materials that help them to blend into your natural teeth for a more natural look.

Six Month Smiles treatment is shorter than traditional braces because it focuses on the front six teeth, those that are visible when we smile. This is why Six Month Smiles is considered a cosmetic treatment.

This treatment is perfect for people who may have had teeth straightening treatment in the past and would like to bring their teeth back to how they were upon completion of their original treatment.

Teeth straightening options: Invisalign

One treatment that hardly has any metal components is Invisalign. This treatment is truly a modern take on teeth straightening. In Glasgow, braces have changed so much that they are unrecognisable.

Invisalign uses a series of custom-moulded plastic tooth trays that work to reposition your teeth. Each tooth tray is slightly different in shape from one to the next.

This treatment benefits from being almost completely invisible when it’s in use. It’s also removable making eating much less of a hassle. It’s also much easier to keep your teeth clean with Invisalign as you just remove it to brush and floss as normal.

Your options for braces in Glasgow

There are more options than ever when considering teeth replacement solutions. Here at Park Orthodontics in Glasgow, braces have evolved so much that there is bound to be a treatment to suit your lifestyle.

The days of traditional braces have passed in many respects. Although traditional braces are the most tried and tested method of straightening your teeth, they come with issues that have put people off getting treatment for straightening their teeth.

The discomfort involved in traditional braces is well known, and the visual impact of the metal brackets and wires, has been known to put people off wearing them.

Treatment times

Many modern treatments boast much quicker treatment times than traditional braces. Six Month Smiles can straighten your teeth in anywhere between four and nine months.

Traditional braces can take anywhere between 18 months and three years to straighten your teeth.

Six Month Smiles has the advantage of speed because it focuses only on the front six of your teeth. These are the teeth that are visible when you smile.

These braces in Glasgow are also made from clear and tooth-coloured materials, which make them much less conspicuous when they are in your mouth.

Removable appliances

Another issue with traditional braces is that they are fixed in your mouth for a long period of time, with regular adjustments. Having metal wires and brackets around your teeth for this amount of time can become uncomfortable.

Brace adjustments can be painful and traditional braces can scratch and rub on your gums, cheeks and tongue. Patients even have to be prescribed painkillers because the pain becomes too much to deal with.

Invisalign treatment offers an alternative that can be removed from your mouth whenever you want to.

Invisalign uses plastic tooth trays that are incrementally different in shape. The series of aligners gradually adjusts your teeth using gentle pressure. Their removability makes keeping your teeth clean much easier and allows you to eat whatever you want without having to worry about damaging your braces.

Invisalign is suitable for people who want to adjust their teeth to perfection or people who have had traditional braces in the past and need to bring their teeth back to alignment.

Invisible braces in Glasgow can make your smile visible again

Many adults spend a large part of the lives covering their mouths when they laugh, smile or talk. They feel stuck because they do not want to wear metal braces for years or they are concerned that other teeth straightening options could be too invasive or too expensive.

Luckily, dentistry has evolved and there are now several alternatives to the standard metal braces, including braces using clear brackets, lingual braces that are practically invisible and Invisalign removable aligners. All these treatments are available at Park Orthodontics. Our experienced dentists will examine your teeth thoroughly and help you decide which type of braces is right for you.

Clear fixed braces

Clear braces are attached to the teeth the same way as metal braces; however, they are manufactured from clear crystal sapphire to make them blend in natural with the rest of your teeth. Clear braces in Glasgow are virtually undetectable and have a faster treatment time compared to traditional braces. Clear braces work in the same way metal braces do, making them a good option for various dental treatments.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces in Glasgow are virtually invisible. As their name suggests, brackets and wires are fitted to the inside of your teeth, opposite your tongue. These braces work in the same way as regular, fixed braces and they can be used to treat all sorts of problems, from crowding to irregular bites. Treatment time depends on your specific circumstances, but 6-24 months is fairly typical. Lingual braces can be used to treat the entire arch of your teeth, but they can also be customised to fit only a few of your teeth for quick treatment.

Invisalign consists of a series of removable, plastic aligners that are custom-made to fit over your teeth. Every two weeks, you will have to wear a new aligner in order to help your teeth move into their final position. Most treatments will involve between 18-36 different aligners, but the actual duration of treatment will vary according to the complexity of your teeth movement. Invisalign braces are very comfortable to wear and can be removed if you wish to eat or brush your teeth.

Improve your teeth

Park Orthodontics provide a range of modern options for people who need braces in Glasgow. Our contemporary tooth realignment methods can be surprisingly discreet, producing impressive results with efficiency and comfort.

Methods and performance

The friendly dental team at Park Orthodontics will help you to decide which option is best for the results you want to achieve in Glasgow. Braces attached to the front of the teeth can be made of materials that have the same colour as your tooth enamel, so they don’t stand out when you open your mouth. Alternatively, with systems like Invisalign, you’ll wear an aligner over your teeth. It’s made of transparent plastic, so it remains discreet while you’re wearing it, and it can be removed when you need to eat, or brush your teeth. Disruption to your daily routine is minimised while treatment is ongoing, and the dental appliance won’t attract too much unwanted attention at social events.

We also offer mini braces, which focus on your front teeth and are worn for a relatively short time.

The different types of treatment are appropriate for different situations, and the team will advise you after a detailed assessment of your dental health. Most treatments need 12 months or longer for their full benefits to take effect. Once the braces or aligners come off, you may need to spend a while wearing a retainer while you sleep, so that your teeth settle securely into their new positions.

Long-term benefits

All of our Glasgow braces will give you a better-looking smile. It’ll be easier to keep your teeth clean and fresh when they’re properly positioned, because there’ll be fewer hard-to-access spaces in the mouth where food particles and plaque can hide. The risk of gum disease and tooth decay is therefore reduced. Your teeth will also be better at their jobs of biting into and chewing food, so there’ll be less strain on your jaw.

A neater smile is more visually appealing, and this can improve the way you feel about your overall appearance.

You’ll enjoy all of these benefits for a long time after you’ve stopped wearing your braces in Glasgow. They’re a long-term investment in your dental health and oral hygiene.

Say goodbye to traditional braces

It wasn’t very long ago that the reality of braces meant a mouthful of wires and elastic as well as discomfort whenever it was time for a regular adjustment at the dentist. Back then, brace treatments also often included pulling out teeth and using expanders to widen the palate. But times have changed, and there is now a variety of options available for your braces in Glasgow, including the Damon System at Park Orthodontics.

How are Damon braces in Glasgow different from traditional braces?

Unlike traditional fixed braces, Damon braces use a passive self-tightening system. The wires are held in place by a sliding mechanism. This will allow for more freedom of movement and eliminates the need for tightening by your dentist which many of our patients dread.

The wires used in Damon braces in Glasgow are also lighter than traditional wires. As your teeth gradually glide into place, successively thicker wires made of stainless steel are used. This means that the teeth can move faster and fewer adjustments will be necessary.

As well as this, with traditional braces, elastics tend to be a gathering place for plaque. Even with careful oral brushing, flossing and using interdental brushes, this can result in the erosion of the enamel around the bracket. Erosion can leave permanent marks on the teeth when the brackets come off. Damon braces are easier to keep clean, resulting in less hassle for our patients.

The Damon System is also appropriate for both children and adults alike. Increasingly, our adult patients are choosing to have these modern braces in Glasgow to order to improve their appearance.

The material used for your Damon braces is also highly resistant to the staining caused by certain foods and drinks, such as coffee or wine.

As if this wasn’t enough, we can even offer clear Damon brackets for our patients who are concerned about presenting a professional image to the world. No longer will you need to worry about the physical look of fixed braces, as this can be a thing of the past with the help of Park Orthodontics. Why not give us a call today?

A centre dedicated to braces in Glasgow

People who don’t know much about dentistry might imagine that teeth straightening is a simple job. Nothing could be further from the truth, which is why we set up Park Orthodontics. We want people to be able to get the best possible braces in Glasgow, the braces that work best for them.

A multitude of misalignments

Teeth misalignments come in a wide variety of forms. Some are to do with the jaws not biting together properly, one or other of them is too far forward or back. Sometimes the arch of the jaw is too narrow and needs to be widened in order to make room for all the teeth. It is also to do with the teeth not being where they should be, independent of what is going on with the jaws. Sometimes they jut out. Sometimes they lean in. Sometimes they are twisted. Sometimes the teeth have not quite come down as far as they should. Sometimes they are doing more than one of these things. Diagnosing these issues is a skill all of its own. Putting them right is a whole different ball game.

That’s why the dentists who fit braces in Glasgow at Park Orthodontics have been specially trained in treating misaligned teeth and jaws. Our 2 dentists are Andrew McGregor and Edward McLaughlin. They formulate and carry out treatments tailor-made for each patient who comes to Park Orthodontics needing braces in Glasgow.

We offer brands that people have come to rely on, such as Damon, Six Month Smiles, the Inman Aligner, and Invisalign, but we recognise that some brands have been developed for general dentists to use as a ‘one size fits all’ way of dealing with simple misalignments. We know that some brands market themselves as being faster, when, in fact, it is because they only have to make small simple movements to align the teeth so that treatment can take a few months only. Teeth move at the same speed no matter what system is used. However, some braces in Glasgow are more attractive for reasons of aesthetics, comfort, or budget, which are all valid reasons that need to be taken into account, when possible, when deciding which system to use to straighten teeth.

Discretion is the name of the game with braces in Glasgow

More and more patients are taking advantage of braces to straighten their teeth later in their adult years. At Park Orthodontics, we understand that what puts most people off getting straighter teeth is the idea of having to wear obvious metal braces for months or years on end. It is for this reason that we offer a range of more discreet alternatives.

Discretion is an increasingly important aspect of treatment with braces in Glasgow, as increasing numbers of adult patients are searching for braces that do not dominate their mouths.

At Park Orthodontics, we have brought together discreet treatments featuring both fixed and removable appliances. Both methods of straightening teeth have their advantages; one may be better suited to your needs than the other. Before we can recommend either kind, you will need to come into our clinic for a consultation. Once we have thoroughly examined your teeth, jaws, bite, and mouth, we will be able give you advice on which system of braces in Glasgow will provide the best treatment for you.

Not just cosmetic

Adult braces treatment is mainly fitted into the category of cosmetic dentistry because it is assumed that any major issues will have been corrected by adulthood, with treatment on the NHS for children with serious bite correction issues. However, that leaves plenty of kids not getting treatment for mild misalignments; and yet the benefits of straighter teeth are not just aesthetic, there are health benefits too.

It is much easier to keep straighter teeth clean because there are fewer hard-to-reach areas in which dental plaque can build up. With regular visits to your dentist and hygienist, and good dental hygiene at home, you can reduce your risk of both gum disease and tooth decay.

Damon Clear Braces

Damon clear braces are more comfortable and more discreet than their metal counterparts. They use a passive slide mechanism to maintain archwires within the bracket, thus allowing them to move freely, thereby reducing friction.

This popular system of clear, removable aligners snap on snugly over your teeth to guide them into a new position. You change your aligner about every fortnight, and can take them out to eat, drink, clean, and to brush your teeth.
