“It’s great to have Melissa on the team: Hard working with a fantastic sense of humour!” ~ Dr Andrew McGregor, Owner Park Orthodontics.
Melissa enjoys the feeling that making progress gives her. She likes a challenge and learning new skills and always strives to expand her professional knowledge and abilities.
Melissa decided to work in the dental industry as she saw the opportunities she would get working in a constantly advancing industry where she could not only continually learn, but could also help and care for people.
Melissa began working towards the NEBDN National Certificate for Dental Nurses in 2017 and successfully gained her qualification in 2019. She found the course extremely interesting, saying that gaining an understanding of why things are done in a particular way made her hands on role even more stimulating.
She worked in a general dental practice for a further four years after gaining her qualification, perfecting her skills, and relishing in a role that had practical, academic, and compassionate aspects.
She also gained a first-aid qualification during this time.
Melissa leapt at the chance to join the team at Park in 2023, as she aspired to learn more about orthodontic treatments and just how transformative they can be for patients of all ages.
She is a friendly, caring, and helpful member of our team who finds it extremely fulfilling to be able to give the patients comfort and reassurance that they will be receiving the best possible care at the practice.
Melissa works alongside our clinicians, providing chairside assistance during treatment and new patient clinics. She also helps run our decontamination unit, ensuring our high standards are adhered to.
She is very organised and always ensures that each surgery is well-equipped for what is needed for the day. She is hoping to start working towards her dental radiography qualification in the near future, not only will this provide her with a greater level of dental knowledge, but it will also be beneficial to the practice as X-rays are an essential part of treatment where orthodontics is concerned and she would like to be able to contribute to that.
For Melissa, aside from the pleasure she gets working in her chosen profession, the best bit about being a member of the Park Orthodontics team is how close we all are, she describes it as ‘heartwarming’ that we’re like a little work family. Melissa thinks it’s wonderful that every single team member is always happy to help when needed!
When not working, Melissa’s hobbies include spending time with friends and her three young nephews, she also enjoys keeping fit by going to the gym and playing tennis when she gets the chance.
