Biography

Fiona underwent orthodontic treatment when she was twelve years old, and the experience inspired her to work towards becoming an orthodontist herself!

Knowing what she wanted to do as a career meant that Fiona was focused at school, aiming to get the grades she needed to go to university to study and train to become a dentist and an orthodontist.

She even ensured her work experience was at her family’s dental practice. When her dental studies began at the University of Glasgow, she soon realised she had a passion for general dentistry.

Fiona has always had an artistic streak, and studying higher art while at school was immensely enjoyable; she found it pleasant to focus on her creative side rather than just her academic goals.

Today, Fiona still enjoys putting her artistic talents to beneficial use, likes to upcycle furniture, and loves interior design!

Fiona qualified from the University of Glasgow in 2002 with commendation. Fiona went on to work in the hospital and general dental practice and completed her general professional training at Newcastle Dental Hospital.

During those two years, she also completed specialist entrance exams in the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, after which Fiona started a post in general practice with a day teaching in the Dental Hospital Accident and Emergency department, where she taught undergraduates.

In 2005, Fiona moved to Australia to broaden her horizons in life and professionally, keen to see the world and work in different environments with a range of professionals.

During the two years that she lived and worked in Australia, Fiona learned that British dental graduates have a reputation for being skilled in oral surgery procedures!

She was fortunate enough to learn from different specialists she worked alongside and felt inspired by their way of planning treatment for their patients.

Fiona says that it allowed her to work in a private dental setting where she learned new ways to treat patients, and the experience opened her eyes to different options that were not available in the UK.

She felt privileged to collaborate with Professors in restorative dentistry and to be able to help set the teaching curriculum, which allowed her to learn different techniques and treatments to provide for her patients.

Missing friends and family, Fiona returned to the U.K., started her family, and settled in Glasgow, firmly laying her roots down in her home city!

She worked part-time, supporting her husband in advancing his skills and knowledge and helped expand his business while raising three beautiful children.

When Fiona returned to general dentistry, she reached a point in her career where she wanted a new focus. She had been treating patients for fifteen years in general practice and felt ready to take on a new challenge.

Fiona had had her own skin issues over the years, she struggled with dry, sensitive, hormonal breakouts and Rosacea (redness), and nothing had helped since her teens.

A colleague had trained in medical skincare, and Fiona decided to go for treatment herself. After a couple of months of perseverance, she said that her skin looked and felt transformed, and she loved it!

Fiona says that was when she knew she wanted to learn more and help people like herself get the skin they never knew they could have.

In 2015, Fiona decided that it was the new path in her career that she was looking for!

Over the years, Fiona has undertaken training courses in facial aesthetics, from one-to-one bespoke training days, practical training days with experienced clinicians, and webinars on medical grade skincare to in-house training for chemical peels or micro-needling.

Fiona has achieved a Diploma in Aesthetic Injectable Therapies, so she can now place PGDip with the other letters after her name!

Fiona joined Park Orthodontics in 2021, carries out Invisalign treatment for patients, and runs Aesthetic facial clinics.

Fiona says that she enjoys working with all the girls in the team and that they keep her smiling. She believes there is a real team ethos within the group.

She admits that she was slightly apprehensive about working with her other half, Andrew, but after over a year, she says it has been a wonderful experience.

Fiona is a member of the General Dental Council and the CMAC (Complications in Medical Aesthetics Collaborative).

She is particularly proud to be a member of CMAC, a group of medical professionals striving for the best in medical aesthetics.

They are paving the way for keeping patients safe and setting the gold standard with evidence-based research.

In her spare time, Fiona enjoys spending time with her children with no time pressures from school or clubs.

She likes running and adores walking the family dog, Bagel, especially on the beach or through the woods.
