Invisalign differs from a traditional brace that is attached to the front of the teeth. Near-invisible and custom-made, the series of clear plastic aligners fit over your teeth like a mouth guard, which are worn 24 hours a day excluding eating and drinking. State of the Art Treatment Plans

Here at Park Orthodontics we use cutting edge 3D scanning technology to plan our cases. The Invisalign iTero Element Scanner is a state-of-the-art digital impression system that eliminates the need for messy putty in your mouth. With our Invisalign iTero system in Glasgow, we can digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. Not only is this process far more comfortable than the old putty based impressions, but it's faster and can offer a superior clinical endpoint.

One of the biggest advantages of the iTero is that it works exactly like a smartphone; once we have the image of your teeth on the screen, we can expand the image, zoom in on the image, adjust the image, rotate the image and showcase what your new smile could look like from every angle.

During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D model of your mouth that we use with all Invisalign services including the Invisalign Outcome Simulator to show you what your new smile might look like.

 

Dental Monitoring: More Free Time for You

Dental Monitoring allows you to scan your teeth with your smartphone at home. We are then able to review your scans online to ensure your teeth are moving and progressing as they should be. This means we won’t have to see you for follow up appointments each month, giving you more time to do the things that are important to you – all at no extra cost!

Invisalign FAQ

The Invisalign system is a pair of dental aligners (one for each arch) made from thermoplastic resin, which are 0.3mm thick. They look like thin, plastic mouth guards.

Invisalign aligners are manufactured using advanced digital technology. At your first appointment, we create a 3D digital image of your teeth using a hand-held scanner. This produces a computer-generated treatment plan that shows how your teeth will move throughout the course of treatment. The great benefit of this is that you can see how your smile will look after using Invisalign before the work begins.

Inside the aligners, there are pressure points that gently nudge the teeth into position. You wear each set for 7-10 days, until the feeling of pressure has worn off. You then exchange them for the next set in the series, until you have completed the whole batch.

You will need to come in to see us for a check-up about every six weeks during your treatment, so we can make sure that everything is progressing as it should.

The aligners are removable, but be aware that you need to wear them for 20-22 hours a day to make sure that they are effective.

There is an adjustment period when you begin treatment. Some patients report that their speech is affected, or that the aligners feel uncomfortable at first. There will, of course, be a feeling of pressure throughout the treatment, that is how you know the aligners are working. However, if it feels too painful, you may need to take over-the-counter painkillers until you adjust.

Any issue should wear off within the first month. If it doesn't, come and see us.

Once we have taken your measurements and created the treatment plan, the majority of the procedure is up to you.

To keep them in good condition, you need to remove the aligners for eating and cleaning. This is necessary if you don't want them to stain. Anything but plain water may cause the trays to blemish.

Gently clean the aligners with your toothbrush and toothpaste after each meal. If there is food or drink residue on the trays your teeth will soak it up and it may cause decay. Also brush and floss your teeth after each meal.

This means that you won't be subjected to stares, comments and questions from strangers about your teeth and you can go about your daily business as normal.

If you do have an extra special occasion to attend, such as a wedding or job interview, it is possible to remove the trays for an hour or two, though don't make a habit of this, as they need to be in at least 20 hours a day to do their work.

An additional unexpected benefit that patients also sometimes report is that they lose weight when wearing Invisalign. Because the aligners need to be removed for eating and cleaning, this brings awareness to when and what you eat and cuts down or cuts out mindless snacking. Great if you work in an office where cakes and biscuits are always on offer.

Yes. All orthodontic treatment requires the patient to wear a retainer indefinitely afterwards to make sure the teeth don't drift back into their old position. We can fit you with a bonded retainer or you can have a removable one.
